Dynamic Imaging Systems
For some time, Dynamic Imaging Systems were typically the preserve of large eCommerce Websites. Typically with tens and hundreds of thousands of products, each with multiple images, the ability to update, maintain and get the best utilisation of these image assets quickly became a critical-path task for getting new products out and into the marketplace.
The massive increase in the use of a plethora of mobile and handheld devices, was partly responsible for the re-tooling of most web designers and developers to take a more responsive approach to the sites they were creating. With that comes the inherent problem of efficiently providing and maintaining a multitude of variants for every images used across your sites, such that you can then utilise the appropriate one for each context and scenario
I have written an introduction to Dynamic Images on my blog.
